About Orbiting the Glitch
Orbiting the Glitch is a virtual exhibition exploring the aesthetics of failure at the intersection of art and technology and will be visited through the lens of new media and generative art.
It will be hosted by New Art City and is a collaborative effort between the glitch.cool collective and independent curator Rafailia Thiraiou.
We invited artists from around the world to work with us in making an international exhibition which will explore techniques embracing error and transforming it into a discussion or visual proposition. The rooms include works from the collective’s own artists, artists from the glitch.cool discord server, as well as artists who were selected through invitation and open call.

Guide to Joining
Once you have entered the virtual space, you will be greeted by a welcome screen with instructions on how to navigate the exhibition, as well as a description of the current room you are visiting. Additionally, there is a volume control slider, and buttons for taking a screenshot, or writing a message in the Guestbook. This menu is accessible at all times through the Esc (Escape) keyboard button. Clicking anywhere on an empty area will close the main menu and let you explore the virtual space.
There are several rooms available for you to explore at your own pace. When you first enter, you will be placed in the main Lobby room. The Lobby contains a section of sphere-shaped portals that lead to other rooms and you can simply walk through them. Additionally, you can always change rooms from the dropdown menu, found in the main menu (press Esc to access it).
When viewing the art pieces and installations, you will begin to hear their audio as soon as you get close to them.
The objects you will find in the various rooms have descriptions that will appear in the bottom right section of your screen while you are looking at them.
If you click on an object, it will open in full screen for a more isolated viewing experience. While in this view mode, you can read the full description, find additional links, and if the content is in video form - you will have playback controls inside a video player. Clicking outside of the content area will close the full screen mode and let you continue moving and exploring.
Some of the available rooms allow you to walk around and jump, but others allow you to fly!
You can walk through walls and all other objects in general. You can also walk inside of some objects for a more immersive experience.
The virtual space also supports chat functionality. If you press the Enter key while walking around, you will see the main menu appear, and if you start typing and press Enter again, you will be able to send a message to the whole room. You can also change your username by left clicking with your mouse on the ‘username’ button. You can exit chat mode by clicking outside of the content area. The chat log is positioned on the bottom left part of the screen. If you would like to communicate with someone specific, keep in mind the chat is room-based, so you need to stay in the same room with the person you’d like to talk with.
You can also access a catalog view. If you press ESC you can access it by clicking on it. A 2D view mode will appear with all the works and their description plus the description of the room.
Note: Chrome Browser is recommended for viewing the exhibition. If you end up having a technical issue of any kind, you can reload the browser.
Note: In case your computer has slow graphical capabilities, you may experience performance issues, such as stuttering when walking around.
Note: If you have a slow internet connection, audio and/or video may take a while to load.
Note: Not all visual pieces have audio, and not all audio pieces have video, but all of them have descriptions.
