About the exhibition

‘Orbiting the Glitch’ will be an exhibition based on the exploration of the glitch aesthetic in audio and visual production of the work of the collective ‘glitch[dot]cool’.

This exhibition seeks to approach various glitch aesthetics in music and interactive/ generative visual media which emerged through their practice. We are alsointerested in new media artand visualsin abroadersenseand toexplore different aestheticsof sound collage andgenerative artforms.

Since 2019, when the collective was established, their core value is the notion of community.Glitch[dot]cool collective is built and expanded through community by sharing knowledge and skills. One of the aims of this exhibition is to acknowledge the members who are part of it by inviting audio-visual creatives from the discord serverto participate with their work .Another aim is to expand the communityby inviting new participants through an open call and get to know more artists whose work explores a glitch aestheticandnew media art.

We want to experiment in the virtual space through various forms of art and explore the performativity of the glitch genre. For that reason, we haveencouragedapplications from performers and dancers who are either using generative software like Touchdesigner or would be interested in collaborating with other sound or visual-based artists involved with the project.

This exhibition is a collaboration between glitch[dot]cool collective and independent curator Rafailia Thiraiou.

About the Space

New Art City is a toolkit and community for online exhibitions. Every show is a 3D multiplayer environment, designed and built using our online drag & drop editor. Visitors can see each other and chat while exploring the exhibitions. Popular shows can support hundreds of visitors at the same time from all over the world. And you can access shows on any desktop or mobile device in your web browser, without registering, downloading or configuring anything.Artists using our toolkit have built installations that range from pragmatic to wildly imaginative. And you can install alone or together with your team in real time.

New Art City gives all artwork a global stage, which transforms traditional art and offers a new native format for digital art. We are an artist run organization and we are dedicated to supporting artists in everything we do, especially those who face barriers in the traditional fine art world. That is why we provide virtual space to those who are denied physical space, and why we promote and amplify work by queer artists and artists of color. We are building a systemwhich empowers artists to realize the impossible, and dream a new type of art.

About the Curator

Rafailia Thiraiou is an emerging curator originally from Greece, currently based in Birmingham, UK. As a curator, she values the notion of community and engagement. By forming communities, she believes we encourage and enable change. Through realizing her practice, after receiving a master’s in art historyand Curating, she started focusing on curating online spaces, new media art and the relation between technology and art. Through online communities, we get to decide who we choose to be. Time and space are blurred. The dualism between physical and online space is what intrigues her and where her research is focused.
